Focus Dinner with Fred Story, Story HomesSave My Seat
23 November 2017, 18:30 - 22:00
Jesmond Dene House, Jesmond Dene Road, Jesmond, Newcastle
Since Fred Story built his first house, he has expanded his businesses, owned a football club, won countless awards and given thousands of pounds back to local communities.
Starting his career as a civil engineer, Fred was inspired by his brother to renovate houses and, by the time he was 30, bought a small farmstead which he converted into a family home, with four plots of land behind it; the first four Story Homes.
Fast-forward 30 years and some stellar growth has seen the number of employees across Story Homes and Story Contracting rise past the 1,000 mark, with turnover hitting £290m and £120m respectively.
The past six years have seen the biggest growth in both companies’ history. Story Homes now has 30 schemes in Cumbria, the North East, North West of England and Southern Scotland, and is aiming to build more than 1,000 homes this; with its sights firmly set on becoming the best quality house builder in the UK.
Story Contracting now has four areas of operation, based over five regional offices; construction, rail, plant and Reiver Homes.
Story’s motto is ‘Do it right’. A simple ethos that the businesses continue to make all of their decisions by, meaning they only employ sub-contractors who go above and beyond, they pay them on time and do a great job for their clients above all else.
Fred is also co-owner of Aptus Utilities, an independent connections provider based in Bolton, which will achieve £25m turnover this year and has been recognised by London Stock Exchange Group as ‘one of 1,000 companies to inspire Britain’.
