Learn more about Wayne.............
Wayne has owned and operated his own highly successful oil field manufacturing companies, developing complex new technologies for the industry.
He started his career in the oil and gas industry as a diver and sub-sea engineer, working on offshore projects all over the world. He progressed to project management in areas such as disaster recovery and rig construction. At the same time, he furthered his studies in mathematics, science and engineering.
Wayne started his own business in the 1990s to provide technical products in pipeline services, combining his first hand practical experience of the industry with an understanding of its technological needs. His company was acquired by Weatherford International, a major US oil field service company listed on the NYSE. During his time at Weatherford, he successfully developed a new expandable sand screens business. He was also responsible for Weatherford's Expandable Technology Unit, restructuring and guiding the solid expandable technology towards technical and market success. Wayne was an active board member as senior vice president of the Weatherford connection business, managing a worldwide operation with over 6,000 people and 150 bases worldwide. During this time, the company almost quadrupled revenues to $6.6 billion and increased EBIT over 17 times to $1.2 billion.
In 2005, Wayne was approached by Royal Dutch Shell to develop and commercialise TubeFuse Technologies, a new forging technology that allows tubing to be joined in a way that guarantees sealing and provides a flush joint. With Weatherford as a partner, he established TubeFuse’s research and development centre, Incubator, in the north east and has developed the embryonic technology to successful commercialisation.
As well as his position working with TubeFuse and Incubator, Wayne is currently chairman and CEO of Momentum Technologies LLP, which owns and operates a diverse portfolio of companies aimed at the technology challenges of the defence, medical and energy industries.
