A leading North East hospitality giant is celebrating two wins at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Newcastle-based Malhotra Group plc triumphed at the annual North East Hoteliers Association ceremony held at Marriott Hotel Gosforth Park (on Thursday 10 May) with staff impressing judges in two main categories.
Andrea Holecyova, receptionist at The New Northumbria Hotel, Jesmond, won the Warm Welcome category, impressing judges with the effort she goes to, to ensure each and every guest’s stay is as enjoyable and memorable as possible.
She began her career as a member of the housekeeping team, achieving her current position eight years ago and has won the hotel’s in-house staff incentive scheme four times in the past year alone.
“We once had a young girl and her mother staying at the hotel and as they were waiting in reception for a taxi to take them to a Little Mix concert, Andrea popped some of the band’s music on to help get them in the spirit,” said the Group’s director of operations, Atul Malhotra.
“Another time she discovered it was a young guest’s birthday and bought a cake, balloons and a card to place in her room for when she returned.”
The Group’s second winner at the awards, held to recognise staff within the region’s growing hospitality sector, was Accommodations and Commercial Manager, Lottie Haylock.
Lottie, who won the Inspirational Leader category, has 23 years of experience within the sector which she has brought to bear following the multi-million-pound refurbishment of the hotel, completed in 2017.
Last year, she became only the second person to secure a scholarship from the Masters Innholders to attend a management development course at the prestigious Cornell University, at the US.
“She is an excellent manager, said Atul Malhotra. “Approachable and very supportive. A brilliant mentor to her team she always makes time to help and advise them when needed.”
The Group, which also owns bars and restaurants across Tyneside, was shortlisted in a record, seven out of the 10categories at the awards, “making it our most successful year to date,” said Atul.
“I’d like to congratulate Andrea and Lottie and all our other nominees.”
