The Italian Awards honours Gateshead's Sorella Sorella with Best Team award

A Gateshead restaurant is celebrating after taking a bite out of the competition and winning a top honour at the English Italian Awards 2018.
On Sunday night over 450 guests descended on The Principal Hotel in Manchester to celebrate England’s love for Italy. Now in its fourth year the Italian Awards is a prestigious celebration of successful English Italian businesses.
The Italian Awards team have searched every corner of England to look for the very best of the best with businesses in battle it out for the past year to get it into the Gala Final.
A staggering 36,000 public votes were cast and there were plenty went the way of Sunniside's Sorella Sorella who beat off competition from up: Nonna’s Italian Restaurant in Sheffield Mario’s in Skegness to win England's Best Team.
Sharing their delight on their Facebook page, Sorela Sorella posted "So this happened last night...WE WON BEST TEAM!!
"We are so overwhelmed and incredibly proud to have won this award at the English Italian Awards 2018.
"We think we have the best team and we are overjoyed that this has been recognised nationally.
"Thank you to all of our amazing customers who took the time to vote initially and of course to the Sorella team for making this happen."
There was also reason to celebrate for a handful of other North East businesses too. Houghton le Springs's Mamma Mia Italiano was runner up in both Best Pasta and the UK National Pizza Championships.
Washington's Azzuri was also a runner up in the latter while Whitley Bay's Lido di Meo was runner up in England's Best Newcomer.
