This idea was to then evolve into the building system that is OGEL.

OGEL is a construction technology that builds walls, floors and roofs from waste plastic

It now has patents in the UK, USA, China and most of mainland Europe.

It is North East based with sites in Gateshead and Stockton on Tees and currently uses its technology to build structures such as garden rooms and offices alongside other specialist buildings as well as its origin idea as a flood defence system.

OGEL were ‘winners’ in the 2021 series of Dragons Den having been offered investment from a number of the Dragons ,  and have been heavily featured in BBC2’s home improvement program ‘Your Home Made Perfect’ in its 2023 series.

Paul Blake is the owner of Newcastle Eagles Basketball Club and chairman of Eagles Community Foundation.

Paul took ownership of Newcastle Eagles Basketball Club in 1999 and has spearheaded what has become the most successful basketball team in British history, winning 27 trophies in the last two decades. During this period, he also acted as chair of the British Basketball League, assisting in development of media contracts, the sport’s first All Parties Parliamentary lobbying group, the British Basketball Foundation and GB Basketball’s appearance at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The club formed the Eagles Community Foundation in 2006, delivering basketball to the North East community, including in over 150 schools per year, a junior club programme with over 2,000 members, educational partners across Tyne and Wear and an academy programme supporting talented players in the professional game.

Mentor of the Year and Lifetime Achievement

The winner of both the Mentor of the Year and Lifetime Achievement award is decided by the Entrepreneurs' Forum board and kept a closely guarded secret until the night! 

The Mentor of the Year award, supported by the Malhotra Group is presented to an entrepreneur who has been selected for their outstanding contribution over the last twelve months to altruistically supporting fellow entrepreneurs and the growth of their businesses.

Whereas the Lifetime Achievement award, which is this year supported by LDC, is awarded to a business leader who has shown huge commitment over a significant period of time and made a major impact to the regional economy.
