Data Protection Made Easy
Two of the entrepreneurial minds from Compare the Market are looking to cause further industry disruption, this time in the world of data protection.
Tech start-up and ‘Data in Business’ specialists Data2Action are bringing to market a ‘first-of-its-kind digital platform’ to help organisations navigate the complex world of data protection and privacy.
Founded in 2017 by two former directors of BGL Group, the parent company of Compare the Market, Data2Action’s ‘Virtual Data Protection Officer Portal’ (VDPO) platform has now launched following six months of development and BETA testing.
Specifically designed to be easy to use and cost effective, the ‘Virtual Data Protection Officer Portal’ uses artificial intelligence and intelligent workflow capability to guide and support businesses on their compliance journey, replacing the need for many internal systems and processes. The VDPO acts as an intelligent hub for an organisations data protection needs including training, data breach management and policy awareness.
The concept is the brainchild of co-founders Jason Turner and Sarah Burns, both of whom played a key role in helping their previous employer, BGL, exploit its data by understanding how best to utilise it to drive efficiency and effectiveness across the business.
Jason said: “We live in a digital world and the effective and proper use of peoples data is crucial to many businesses. However compliance with data protection legislation remains a continual challenge for organisations as they don’t always have the skills, knowledge nor resources to manage this complex subject successfully. Despite the ever increasing risks, many either choose to adopt a ‘wait and see’ approach or simply ignore the legislation which in many instances, results in brand damage, client dissatisfaction, regulatory scrutiny and ultimately, financial loss.”

Boasting a rich pedigree in data protection, Data2Action have witnessed first-hand how large and small organisations across both the UK and North East have been adversely affected by poor practice and through the development of this new solution, they have made it their mission to reduce the burden on organisations and make data protection more accessible to all.
The launch of the platform was supported by the North East SME Innovation Programme, managed by the North East BIC and has subsequently attracted broad interest from investors looking to add this service to their portfolio.

Not only did we secure funding to support the research and development of the platform, but we were also signposted to a number of other organisations that specialise in helping companies just like us.
