If you work in UK Film and TV, chances are you know Jamie Hutchinson. With over two decades of experience, Jamie has built a formidable reputation as the former owner and co-founder of one of the country’s most trusted camera rental firms, Picture Canning (North), servicing some of the UK’s biggest productions. A passionate advocate for TV and film in the North East, he sits on multiple boards supporting the screen industries across the UK.
Jamie began his career at just 20 years old as a runner on Sky TV’s Dream Team, before moving into the kitroom at the Picture Canning Company. There, he quickly rose through the ranks to become Bookings Manager. In 2004, Jamie returned to his hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne to launch Picture Canning (North). The company flourished under his leadership, expanding to additional branches in London and Manchester.
His work has supported a host of high-profile productions, including Sky Atlantic’s Britannia, The Feed for Studio Lambert and Amazon US, and multiple seasons of Peaky Blinders. One of his most notable contributions was providing camera support for Boiling Point—from its early days as a short film to its evolution into a feature and later a BBC One series. Jamie and his team continued this collaboration with the same creatives for Netflix’s one-shot series Adolescence.
In 2024, Jamie joined the team at No Drama, expanding his reach further with offices in Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Newcastle upon Tyne, and a strategic alliance with One Stop Films in London.
Jamie’s passion lies in supplying cutting-edge broadcast cameras, equipment, and trusted crew for TV drama, film, features, and commercials. Known for his bespoke, personal service, he is a go-to name for clients including Tiger Aspect, Netflix, the BBC, and ITV—many of whom return project after project.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the industry, Jamie was awarded the RTS NETB Centre Award in 2014.
