Azets preview of new hotel in iconic location

Accountancy and business advisory firm Azets brought Newcastle’s business community together for the first event at a new five star hotel in the city centre.

Guests poured through the doors of the luxury, Art Deco themed Hotel Gotham Newcastle for the Azets Autumn Social.

The networking event gave them the opportunity to rub shoulders with fellow professionals and gain a preview of the transformation of the landmark fire and police station building in Pilgrim Street.

Azets has three offices in the North East – at the Regent Centre in Gosforth, Newcastle, at Wynyard Park in Teesside and on the Belmont Business Park in Durham – where it employs more than 300 people.

Claire Hinshaw, who is Newcastle office managing partner, said: “The evening was a tremendous success, and we were delighted to bring together members of the local business community to exchange ideas, build new connections and catch up with established contacts at a crucial time for firms in the region and across the UK.

“It was a privilege to be the first company to host a corporate event at the hotel, to support its opening in the city and as a reflection of our commitment to local enterprise and strong links to the local community.

“Gotham’s regeneration of the iconic fire and police station building mirrors the energy, dynamism and entrepreneurial flair of Newcastle and its businesses, and marks a new chapter in the life of a much-loved local landmark.”

The Azets Autumn Social was held in Gotham’s FIRE bar. The networking event is held annually by Azets, one of the top 10 UK accountancy and business advisory firms.

Chris Thompson, general manager at Hotel Gotham Newcastle, said: It’s a real milestone moment for us to welcome Azets as our very first corporate guests at Hotel Gotham Newcastle.

“Opening our doors to the business community marks the beginning of what we know will be an exciting journey of hosting unforgettable events in the heart of the city.

“Gotham is all about blending style with substance – and we’re thrilled to be setting the tone with a company that shares our ambition and energy. This is just the first of many moments to come.”

A Grade-II listed building, the former fire and police station was designed by Cackett, Burns, Dick & Mackellar between 1931 and 1933.

It has been transformed into the ‘plush, theatrical destination’ of the Hotel Gotham Newcastle with 57 bedrooms, a contemporary restaurant called SIREN, FIRE and a members-only club, called Club Brass.

Phase two of the development is due to open in 2026.
