Newcastle-based property development and investment business, Adderstone Group, is pleased to announce that the UK’s leading provider of mass participation sporting events, Great Run Company, will move into its Grade A office development on Gateshead Quayside, directly adjacent to the Tyne Bridge.
The Great Run Company, founded in 1981 by Sir Brendan Foster, is best known for its flagship event, the Great North Run.
The Great North Run is the world’s largest half marathon, bringing runners from across the country and around the globe to the region, with an economic impact of £31M on the regional economy. Whilst the celebratory 40th staging of the event was cancelled due to the pandemic, the organisers are looking forward to finally celebrating this milestone anniversary.
Adderstone Group is due to complete the landmark 5,259 sq. ft development on Bottle Bank, Gateshead Quays in October 2020. The Grade A office development comprises three floors of sustainable workspace, is clad in Corten steel, with fully glazed facades. The rooftop terrace offers spectacular views over the River Tyne and iconic Tyne Bridge.
On the day of the Great North Run, some 57,000 competitive and fun runners will pass Tyne Bridge House as the Red Arrows fly overhead1. More than 20 million vehicles drive past the site over the remainder of the year2.
Ian Baggett, Founder CEO of Adderstone Group, said: “We always knew this development would be perfect for a high-profile tenant and you don’t get much higher profile than the Great Run Company.
I remember watching my dad do the first run in 1981 and I’ve done it several times since. It’s an epic event and me and my team feel honoured to now be part of the Great North Run story. Brendan is a true local hero and an inspiration.”
Sir Brendan Foster, Founder and Chairman of the Great Run Company, said:
“It’s great to see Gateshead Quayside undergoing such a positive transformation and we’re excited to be a part of it.
Our first ever office as a company was on the other side of the Swing Bridge and after 40 years its fitting to be starting our next chapter in this fantastic development just across the river from where it all began.
We’re also really pleased to be working with Adderstone, it’s great to see a local company at the heart of this.”
Gary Wright, Chief Operating Officer of the Great Run Company said:
“Like many businesses, we are transitioning to flexi working and as we were coming to the end of our existing lease, the move to Tyne Bridge House provided us with the perfect space to accommodate the new working routines of colleagues based in the North East, as well as those visiting from other offices around the UK.
This central location will give us much more scope to encourage staff to travel to work sustainably, making use of local transport links and cycle lanes.
We also envisage the property having a major role to play on run day, with the spectacular roof terrace providing a perfect viewing gallery from which to carry out interviews and host TV cameras.”
