Local Businesses Join Forces for Sunderland Accessibility Event
Sunderland will host a digital accessibility event this November, bringing together local organisations to help businesses make their websites inclusive for everyone.

Phonetic Digital, Recite Me, Sunderland City Council, and MMC Research are collaborating to deliver the session on 24 November at Sunderland City Hall.
The timing of the event is crucial. With legislation such as the Equality Act, the European Accessibility Act (EAA), and evolving WCAG standards, accessibility is now central to digital services. Companies that fail to prioritise inclusion risk losing customers, top talent, and their reputation.
Participants will gain insights from experts, including practical advice, real-life examples, and step-by-step guidance to improve website accessibility. The workshop will cover topics ranging from making sites easier to use for people with disabilities and older users to complying with legal requirements.
In addition, Recite Me and Phonetic Digital will be offering free accessibility checks of attendees’ homepages, giving businesses a clear starting point for improvements.
“As a Sunderland-based specialist digital agency, it’s great to be bringing together leading voices across the topics of web accessibility and digital inclusion. This free to attend event is the first that we’re aware of in the North East to focus purely on web accessibility and digital inclusion. Sunderland City Council are an award-winning smart city and continue to set the benchmark for other cities by leveraging digital technology for social good. This aligns with our approach to building accessible-first inclusive web applications, and our B Corp® values.
“Recite Me are a brilliant example of a tech business based in the North East who are highlighting and furthering the conversation of web accessibility. A lot of effort has gone in to curating the speakers and the content, it’s going to be a really valuable event.” Says Steven Parker, Managing Director of Phonetic Digital.
“Ensuring digital accessibility isn’t just about meeting legal obligations, it’s an opportunity for businesses to better serve all customers,” says Ross Linnett, CEO of Recite Me.
The session offers a chance for Sunderland businesses to connect, exchange ideas, and address digital accessibility challenges together. Anyone in the area is welcome to attend, gain practical tips, and take steps towards making their websites accessible for everyone.
