One of the largest manufacturers in Northumberland – Miller UK – has donated almost 100 hours of service and raised £2500 for its chosen of the year.
Based in Cramlington, the manufacturer of couplers and buckets for excavators, nominated Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter as its chosen charity for 2023 and carried out a series of fundraising activities throughout the year.
Covering the whole of the North East from its shelter at Benton North Farm in Newcastle, the charity helps thousands of lost, abused and abandoned animals each year, with its main objective being to promote kindness and prevention of cruelty to animals.
Earlier this year, Miller supported the charity with clearing its recreational field – spanning across 12 acres - at its farm using the company’s specialist muck shifting equipment. Two members of staff dedicated two days, with the support of Hubbway Plant Hire who supplied a dump truck to clear the field and dig a pool for the pigs housed on the farm.
The company has also been on hand throughout the course of the year, providing its welding and fabrication services for various jobs at the shelter including repairing and refurbishing nine kennels, as well as providing gate repairs.
Staff at Miller have also been pivotal in providing donations to the animals at the shelter, including providing pet supplies such as wet and dry food, blankets and towels, as well as an array of toys.
Speaking about the donation, Leigh Dobson, Finance Director at Miller said: “Collectively staff nominated this local charity to support, as we have a lot of animal lovers in the business and it has been great to see so many people get behind this great cause and donate where they can.
“It is very important at Miller that we continue to give back to the local community and support such worthy causes where we can. With the Dog and Cat Shelter, we have been in a fortunate position to be able to provide them with practical, hands-on support, applying our technical skills and resources, which has been a great way to provide support to the charity, as well as raise money where we can.”
The local manufacturing business is recognised as a global leader in supplying the safest, most advanced groundbreaking attachments to major OEM’s around the globe including the likes of Cat, JCB, Sany, Hitachi and Liugong. This summer, the company hosted a sponsored bike ride with local suppliers donating to the cause. Miller has also hosted various other activities to raise money including raffles and competitions.
Speaking about Miller’s charitable work, Anjuli Hakin, Head of Animal Welfare said: “We are extremely grateful for Miller’s contribution over the last year, in particular their dedication of time and resources. Supporting the shelter with the muck shifting of the field and providing new kennels and various repairs, has been absolutely invaluable to the charity and has saved us a lot of money meaning we have been able to spend our funds on other much needed resources for the animals.
“Corporate fundraising – from the likes of Miller – makes a huge difference and we are incredibly grateful for any support we can receive to keep the animals safe and make them feel loved.”
Miller has further committed to the Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter that it will be able to support the charity on an annual basis with muck shifting its fields, to make the farm a safe and secure environment, whilst allowing the animals to have the freedom that they need.
