North East climate tech start-up Mutha Cuva secures £250,000 pre-seed funding and appoints leading entrepreneur Simon Moyle as Non-Executive Director

Mutha Cuva, the North East climate tech start-up tackling the challenge of heat pump aftercare, has successfully closed its £250,000 pre-seed funding round and appointed high-profile entrepreneur and business investor, Simon Moyle, as Lead Investor, Advisor and Non-Executive Director.

Founded by heating entrepreneur Amy Mooney, Mutha Cuva is building a national servicing platform for low-carbon heating systems. The company’s technology will provide automated bookings, remote monitoring and AI-powered engineer support for any heat pump model, helping homeowners avoid hassle while enabling engineers to work more efficiently and upskill for the future.

The investment marks a major milestone for the business, which is now finalising its platform build, preparing for its North East launch, and shaping strategic partnerships ahead of national scale-up plans for 2027.
Mutha Cuva’s vision is to make the North East a leader in climate tech and the clean heating transition, while addressing the UK’s shortage of trained heat pump engineers.

With gas boilers banned in new-build homes under the Future Homes Standard and 600,000 annual heat pump installations targeted by 2028, the company aims to fill the critical servicing gap and build consumer confidence in low-carbon heating.

Moyle brings a wealth of experience to the business. He spent more than 20 years at Dixons Carphone before joining employee benefits provider Vivup, where he helped scale the business from 17 employees to over 500, supporting more than 4 million workers.

Under his leadership, Vivup completed two private equity transactions, delivering an 11x return for investors and cementing its position as one of the UK’s leading employee benefits and wellbeing providers.
Amy Mooney, founder of Mutha Cuva, said: “Securing our pre-seed funding target is an important step forward for Mutha Cuva. It shows that investors see the opportunity and potential of our model, which is designed to solve one of the most pressing challenges in the heating market.

“To also attract someone as experienced, proactive and dynamic as Simon as our Lead Investor and Non-Executive Director is a huge endorsement of the business. His track record in scaling tech-enabled companies that deliver outstanding customer experience is second to none, and his support will be invaluable as we move into the next phase of our growth.

“It also reinforces my belief that the North East is the right place to build this company. The region has the talent, the networks and the appetite to back real innovation, and it’s exciting to be showing that climate tech start-ups can thrive here.”

Simon Moyle said: “From my first conversation with Amy it was clear that she has the desire to make a real difference with Mutha Cuva, both in terms of the environmental and financial impact of heating our homes.
“What stood out to me is the entrepreneurial spirit she brings, combined with her deep understanding of the sector. She is using technology in a smart and practical way to tackle a real-world challenge, the lack of reliable aftercare that is holding back the adoption of heat pumps.

“I am excited to be supporting Amy as Lead Investor, Advisor and Non-Executive Director, and I know that Mutha Cuva will become a pioneer showing the way forward. It is exactly the kind of tech-enabled business, rooted in customer need and delivering tangible outcomes, that I believe has the potential to scale rapidly and make a lasting impact.

“There is also something very powerful about building this from the North East. The region has an incredible tradition of engineering, innovation and resilience, and Mutha Cuva is showing that climate tech start-ups don’t need to be based in London to attract investment or talent. That is one of the reasons I was so keen to get involved.”
