The team at Layers Studio have been reflecting on director Paula Harrison’s visit to SWSW London.
Here’s what they had to say:
Last month, Paula headed down to SXSW London with the Creative UK team, and she came back absolutely buzzing. Not in a cheesy “life-changing event” kind of way, more in the way where a few conversations stick with you and make you think a bit differently about how you show up at work (and at home).
She’s shared a lot with us since: about leadership, trust, and how being straightforward and decent should never be seen as weaknesses. One line she mentioned that’s really stayed with me was: “Vision’s only as strong as the trust around it.”
Simple, but spot on. Especially relevant as our own team keeps growing.
Paula’s also been pretty open about the tension between leadership and likeability, and calling out the nonsense idea that you have to choose between the two. As someone who’s worked closely with her for years, I can say: hard conversations can come from a place of care. And she lives that daily.
Big thanks to Creative UK for giving her the space to step out of the day-to-day and reflect. We’ve all benefitted from what she brought back.
