In recognition of Domestic Abuse Awareness Month throughout October, Richard Reed Solicitors has been proud to collaborate with Impact Family Services to raise awareness and highlight the support available to those affected.

Reinforcing a shared commitment to breaking the cycle of abuse across the North East, Richard Reed Solicitors and Impact Family Services have been working together on a number of initiatives to raise awareness, including the cultivation of a special episode on the law firm’s popular Legally Sound podcast, which features insights into legal and support options available.
Domestic abuse continues to be a hidden crisis, with many survivors unsure of their rights or fearful of the consequences of seeking help. The partnership combines Richard Reed’s specialist legal expertise with Impact’s practical and emotional support services, ensuring that individuals and families can access the guidance they need to take the first steps towards safety and recovery.
Associate Solicitor Matthew Lockey from Richard Reed said:
“For many survivors, taking the first legal step can feel overwhelming. We want people to know that support is there, from injunctions and protective orders to advice on child arrangements and divorce proceedings. No one should feel they have to face these challenges on their own.”
Matthews Colleague, Family Law Chartered Legal Executive Debra Taylor, added:
“Every case is different, and our priority is to ensure that clients feel listened to and supported. Whether someone needs urgent protection or longer-term guidance through complex family issues, we work with compassion and clarity to help them move forward safely.”
Impact Family Services has been supporting communities in the region for nearly 40 years, delivering recovery programmes for adults, therapeutic support for young people, and prevention initiatives aimed at tackling abuse at its root. The organisation also provides supported child contact services, ensuring safe arrangements for families in difficult circumstances.
Julie Robinson, Services Manager, Impact Family Services said:
“Impact Family Services are proud to work alongside Richard Reed Solicitors to raise awareness of this hideous crime. We stand together to raise awareness and encourage victims of domestic abuse to reach out for support.”
In 2025, Impact expanded its reach with the launch of a Workplace Domestic Abuse Champion Training programme. Delivered in partnership with Reducing the Risk through Impact’s sister organisation, Connected Families CIC, the initiative trains individuals to recognise and respond to signs of abuse, equipping workplaces across the North East with the tools to better support employees.
Matthew Lockey added, “Domestic abuse is a widespread issue that demands action. We're honoured to stand alongside Impact Family Services in this important work, and by joining forces, both our organisations aim to send a clear message: no one has to face abuse alone.”
