Robson Laidler Crowned Firm Of The Year In Regional Accountancy Awards

Robson Laidler has been named the North East Accountancy Awards Independent Accounting Firm of the Year 2025.

With three offices in Newcastle, Durham and Teesside Robson Laidler specialises in helping businesses reach their full potential via corporate accounts, audit, taxation, forensic accounting and business advisory services.

Over the past 12-months Robson Laidler has witnessed a 12% increase in turnover, fuelled by an increase in private, public and NHS contract work.

Judges praised the firm not only for its commercial success but for its innovative approach to workplace culture following the successful implementation of a Four Day Working Week, allowing staff to have a longer weekend by working reduced hours.

The firm is now being led by joint managing directors Amy Park and Nick Wilson following the retirement of former MD Graham Purvis earlier in the year, who also scooped the Outstanding Achievement Award at the awards ceremony that was held at Newcastle’s Hilton hotel last week (03.07.25).
Robson Laidler Co-MD Nick Wilson said: “This is a huge achievement and a moment of pride for us all. We were finalists against some very worthy firms across the region and the fact we stood out fills us with pride.
“It recognises not just the high standards of professionalism and exceptional service we give to our clients but also the strengths of our core values, culture and our mission to build a business in a way that makes us proud, creating the biggest impact possible to all our stakeholders.
“We will now use this award to fuel the momentum to keep making a positive impact, driving positive change and using our business as a force for good.”

Former MD Graham Purvis, who retired in March 2025 after more than 35 years in the profession, was praised for transforming the very fabric of the accountancy profession; leading Robson Laidler from a profit-focused firm into a values-led organisation. He secured the firm’s B Corp certification in 2021 and played a key role in Robson Laidler being listed as one of the Best Places to Work by the Sunday Times.

Graham Purvis said: “I’m proud to have been part of the vibrant accountancy profession we have here in the North East and to have won this award is an incredible honour. Thank you to the coaches, mentors and colleagues who I’ve learnt so much from. This is what happens when we embrace collaboration and kindness.”

Robson Laidler now has its sights set firmly on its five-year strategic plan, which includes service expansion, people centred growth, financial investment and net zero targets.
