Square One Law joins community backed by Channel 4 to champion region’s creatives

B CORP commercial law firm Square One Law has partnered with The New Monday, a community organisation backed by Channel 4, to help grow the region’s creative community and provide legal support to its freelancers and businesses.

Based in Leeds, The New Monday hosts networking and educational events for individuals and small businesses in TV/film and the wider creative industries.

Despite UK production spend hitting £5.6bn in 2024, over half of that is concentrated in London and the South East, and The New Monday is on a mission to change this.

The initiative was launched in 2021 by Charlotte Scott and Lewis Mitchell, former Producers at Tell Studio, alongside colleague Owen Seabrook, Director at Tell Studio and is supported by a host of creative partners, including Lucy Smith, Owner of Fawkes Digital, Pavan Ward and Rick Ward, Directors of creative freelancer recruiting consultant, We Are The Allies. The organisation is sponsored by Channel 4.

It has since grown to host over 40 networking events bringing together a community of over 1,000 creatives to encourage collaboration, provide work and skills development opportunities, and develop a supportive creative culture of professionals in the North.

Square One Law has long championed and supported the North’s creative economy and recognises the need for freelancers and SMEs to access commercial partners and advisors who understand their industry.

It was this desire to further grow the sector and support its creative minds and businesses which inspired it to sponsor the first ever New Monday event in the North East which will be held at The Tap Room, Full Circle Brewing at 9am - 11am on 23rd September 2025.

Charlotte Scott, organisation lead at The New Monday said: “We’re delighted to partner with Square One Law to help creatives navigate the rapidly-changing legal landscape to protect their businesses and work.

“Together we’re building a creative ecosystem that empowers freelancers and businesses with the community, skills, and industry connections they need to not just survive, but thrive.”

Gil Hunter, Managing Partner & Corporate Lawyer at Square One Law, said: “Square One Law is dedicated to supporting grassroots organisations that aim to have a positive impact on our community.

“The New Monday is proactively supporting a growing sector of creatives in an increasingly challenging industry, and we’re delighted to be part of this activity.”
