Scale-up academy alumni - Dominic Lusardi

Local entrepreneur, Dom Lusardi, attended the Scale-up Leader’s Academy as part of the 2017-18 cohort, and it changed his mindset towards how he approached his business, demonstrating that scaling up isn’t just about what you do, but how you do it.

“I’ve benefited from the programme greatly. It opened my mind. I learnt every business is the same – get your ducks in a row, talk honestly and openly about what you want for the company and then pull it in that direction,” he explained.

Completing the course gave Dom a framework that allowed him to identify the profitable parts of a business and how, with the right tools in place, he could properly make it scale.

“When you run a business there is this nagging doubt about whether you can be doing more and pushing it further. This gives you a framework to recognise and build around that so that you can think about the future with clarity and structure,” he said.

“The Scale-up Leaders’ Academy gave me the opportunity to not only grow a business by myself. It put me in the right mindset and made me feel a lot more confident going forward. That I really was in charge of the future of my business.”

For anyone interested in attending the next Scale-up Leaders’ Academy cohort, Dom’s top three takeaways, were:

  1. You are not alone.
  2. The Academy can’t take away problems within a business, but it can help you create a process to solve them.
  3. Commit to it and make sure everyone else in the business is aligned with the plans to scale.

Taking ideas from the programme and other business leaders, and applying them to Animmersion, has definitely influenced our growth.

If you're going to commit to doing the scale up programme, you are committing to scaling up. You're not half in and half out.

We think we’ve identified a cost-effective framework that will hopefully allow us to triple turnover in the next five years, without having to re-evaluate plans at every stage.
