Samantha Vassallo, Horizon Works
Having founded the marketing agency Horizon Works over 14 years ago, Samantha Vassallo felt her business was not advancing at the pace she wanted and as a result she was losing the drive and energy she needed to make it grow. Sam knew that she needed to do something different to achieve her ambition to double the turnover and get back the spark that had been the catalyst for the success of Horizon Works so far.
Recognising that taking her business to the next level would require a new approach, she joined the Entrepreneurs’ Forum Scale-up Leaders’ Academy (SULA) to help her realise the potential and, having seen the success of previous participants, she knew that the SULA framework would provide her with the tools and shift in mindset to impact the performance of Horizon Works and benefit her personally too.
Prior to the programme the thought of scale up was daunting for Sam but since completing it, she now has a clear vision of where the business is heading over the next five years. She has been bold and confident in making decisions, facilitated by the framework that SULA provides.
“I feel far more ambitious and have realised that scaling up is not impossible. With good planning and a well-defined purpose, I know that we will be able to achieve the growth and goals which previously felt out of reach.
“Every module had takeaways which I have or will be implementing in the business but one of the most powerful lessons was involving the team in the scale up journey. Everyone now has clear roles and responsibilities and after introducing KPIs for the team we have smashed our targets after just one quarter. I also believe that the One Page Strategic Plan has had a positive impact with every person in the team understanding what we are trying to achieve.
“We’re also now much more focussed and there’s a renewed feeling of energy throughout Horizon Works. Challenging myself to think differently about the business has shifted my mindset and I now have a refreshed approach to help me drive the business forward thanks to the SULA programme.”
With plans in place to maximise on opportunities within their sector and expand nationally and internationally, the future is now looking bright for Sam and Horizon Works.
