Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK, Washington Road, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear SR5 3NS
Nissan is not just a North East success story; it's not even just a success story of the international automotive industry. It's a global success story of manufacturing, of management and of how to develop a motivated and dedicated workforce.
The factory is a driver of engineering and manufacturing in the North East, supporting a highly skilled local workforce and a significant supply chain of local businesses, all of whom contribute to its record as Europe's most efficient car plant.
The company is creating a new generation of cars at the same time as creating a new generation of car makers by supporting the £8.4m Skills Academy for Sustainable Manufacturing and Innovation (SASMI) run by Gateshead College opposite the factory, developing a training infrastructure for sustainable manufacturing and nurturing the apprentices who will help to secure the future of this North East phenomenon.
This on-site visit will offer members a rare glimpse into Nissan, to see the factory in operation, to hear how it has created a world class manufacturing facility and place of work and learn more about its management best practice.
