Unipres UK Ltd, Cherry Blossom Way, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear SR5 3NT
One of the key players in the local supplier jigsaw that is critical to Nissan’s success, Unipres (UK) emulates its famous customer with a world-class production facility of state-of-the-art technology and equipment, all in Sunderland.
Our site visit follows a factory tour of Nissan last autumn when guests saw Europe's most efficient car plant in action.
As a significant part of the supply chain, Unipres has contributed to the global success story and is, itself, the focal point of its own Japanese parent company’s operations in Europe.
Since beginning operations in 1987, UPUK has been manufacturing press-formed automotive components including key car body structural parts that are both safe and boost fuel efficiency.
Our host, production manager Stuart Sanderson, has been with the business for almost all that time and has a wealth of experience to share in manufacturing, the automotive sector and Kaizen, the Japanese system of continuous improvement in quality, technology, processes, company culture, productivity, safety and leadership.
Unipres employs more than 1,000 people and supplies to other motor manufacturers including Honda.
In 2012 turnover rose to £183m and the company invested £40m on Wearside to cater for growing demand from a recovering sector.
This is the second chapter of our exploration into the importance of the automotive sector to the North East economy and promises to be both informative and insightful.
This event is free for entrepreneurial members and is open to lead Exchange and Corporate Partners. Please note that places are limited.
