Co-founder of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum with Sir Peter Vardy, Lorna began her working life as a recruitment consultant with Hoggett Bowers. In 1976 she created Geordie Job Finders now known as Northern Recruitment Group, the largest privately owned recruitment company in the North.
Lorna floated the company with full listing on the London Stock Exchange in 1997. At the start of the 2008 recession Lorna made the decision to delist the business in December of that year, taking it back into private ownership. NRG has a current turnover of circa £22million, employing 90 staff with offices in Newcastle, Teesside, York and London.
As founder and chairman of NRG, Lorna has an overarching national business development remit. With extensive experience of recruitment at executive and board level including non-executive appointments Lorna’s expertise remains in high demand. Awards include: North East Businessman of the Year in 1997, an MBE for services to employment creation in 2001 and an OBE for services to Enterprise Promotion in 2014.
Additional to the “day job” Lorna is a CBI Council Member and chairman of the fundraising board for Maggie’s North East at The Freeman Hospital.
