A proud former Entrepreneurs’ Forum ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ (2007), Ian founded his property business whilst studying at Durham University. His undergraduate dissertation on student accommodation doubled up as a business plan and enabled him to match a £2,000 inheritance with a £13,000 loan from Northern Rock. The 300 strong team is now working through a £200m development pipeline.
Sharing his story and personal journey, Ian will cover some fascinating local and national projects and ventures. From his earliest investments and his short career as a professional tennis player, to his time as a Royal Naval Officer and the battles of the global financial crisis, before discussing the challenges and opportunities of the current day, including the Group’s latest acquisition of The Rivergreen Centre, Durham, Atom Bank’s HQ and one of the most significant investment deals of the year.
Ian leads Adderstone Group with dynamism and passion. Creating and delivering exceptional places which improve and regenerate the areas where they exist, Adderstone Group have been behind several huge projects within the region, including leading the restoration of The Tyne Theatre, the world’s last remaining working Victorian theatre, the development of Quay West Business Village in Sunderland, the city’s first out of town office park for over 20 years and contributing to the regeneration of the Ouseburn area into one of the city’s most thriving creative quarters.
