Labman Automation, Seamer Road, Stokesley, Middlesbrough TS9 5NQ
Labman is a rapidly expanding company full of enthusiastic engineers who produce world-leading, custom laboratory automation and products. Andrew Whitwell is an inventor and entrepreneur who has built a company with a family heart and a unique and fun working environment.
Founded in 1979, Labman started out designing small robotic systems to help in education. It wasn’t until Andrew made the company Limited in 1992 that things really began to grow.
Fast forward 25 years and Labman is one of the most sought after custom automation manufacturers in the world, with customers such as Unilever and Akzo-Nobel turning to them for their automation needs.
As staff numbers pushed toward 100, a much needed factory extension was opened by HRH Princess Anne in October 2017. This tripled the size of the original facility but, even before the ribbon was cut, plans were taking shape to start work on a second building that will double the size again.
With a full-size climbing wall, squash court, go-karts, basketball, highly competitive pool & table tennis leagues, a VR zone and last year’s annual ‘Labfest’ including a robotic cocktail maker and ping-pong canon challenge, work hard, play hard is very much a reality here.
Thanks to the popularity of automation and robotics, Labman is a name you’re going to come across a lot more in the future, so join Andrew for a tour around many of the amazing automated systems being built on the factory floor today.
