Riley's Fish Shack
11 July 2023, 14:00 - 17:00
Riley's Fish Shack, King Edward's Bay, Tynemouth, NE30 4BY
Join us as we say hello to summer at Tynemouth beach!
Join us at Riley’s Fish Shack to hear from co-founders Adam and Lucy Riley as they tell us how Riley’s Fish Shack came to be. They’ll be explaining their plans for the future with the introduction of ‘Riley’s Fish Shop’, their latest restaurant venture and how they have challenged themselves to minimise the environmental impact their businesses. Aiming to build sustainability into all elements, from the shack, to the packaging and of course the food.
Nestled along the picturesque Tynemouth coastline, Riley's Fish Shack, has established itself as a renowned seafood haven, offering a unique blend of flavours and a commitment to sourcing only the freshest ingredients. Renowned for their expertise in crafting mouth-watering dishes.
Now employing 22 staff, it is estimated that despite the odd closure due to the elements, Riley’s Fish Shack serves over 70,000 people a year! The business is a prime example of North East scale up, recognised by the Scale Up Institute for it’s 20%+ year on year growth.
Those members lucky enough to reserve one of the limited seats available are in for a fun filled afternoon – hopefully on the beach if the British weather allows!
About Our Hosts - Parental intervention set Adam Riley on his culinary career path. As a naughty teenager, he was sent to help in the upmarket Swiss eatery of a family friend, it is here that he learned the ropes!
From there, age 18, Adam left his home on the Isle of Man and moved to the North East where he joined his father Ozzie, a founding member of the innovative Dodgy Clutch outdoor events and theatre company, which made animated sculptures and structures for outdoor events and touring theatre. When their funding was cut by the Arts Council in 2010 Adam had to re-think his future.
This is when the Riley’s adventure began, as a roving street food (bicycle) stall, debuting at the inaugural Tynemouth Food Festival in May 2012, where along with private events and other festivals Adam and wife Lucy traded for the summer of 2013/2014.
A street trading licence was soon replaced by two rusty containers, and in September 2015 Riley’s Fish Shack opened for business.
