Teesside Airport has today (28 April) launched a recruitment drive for 15 new retail, food and beverage staff to join its growing team as part of its major terminal redevelopment.
The roles will see successful applicants work across all the new food and drink outlets in the refurbished building; The Landside Café, Transporter Bar and Kitchen, The Goosepool bar and Rockliffe and Middleton Lounges, as well as the airport’s shops.
One role up for grabs is that of Head Chef – with a vitally important job criteria being that they must be able to make a great parmo!
The drive comes at a time when the hospitality sector is beginning to get back on its feet after being hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic, a situation which has seen young people disproportionately impacted.
It also follows the recent announcement that Ryanair is adding Corfu to the airport’s expanded summer season in July, which will see the airport welcome increased passenger numbers. The terminal overhaul, which also includes new check-in and revamped security areas and shops, will be ready to make holidays as relaxing and hassle-free as possible right from the start.
Ellie Potter, 25, from Middlesbrough, recently secured a promotion working as a Passenger Services Co-ordinator in the airport’s terminal building.
She said: “It’s a really exciting time to be joining the airport with all of the work that’s going on to transform it, and the new routes it’s bringing to the area for local people. Working at the airport every day is different and my job is so versatile and interesting – for example when the Radio 1 Big Weekend was in the area, we welcomed Miley Cyrus, Lewis Capaldi and Craig David. And, just yesterday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge used the airport too!
“I’m delighted about my new role, and I’m looking forward to seeing more passengers through our terminal. I feel like with everything that’s happening here, I’ve got a real career ahead of me in a brilliant environment – anyone who applies would be working with a great team and would build real friendships along the way.”
