Businesses from across the region have today (30 March) been urged to sign up to a supply chain event and learn how they can get involved in the construction of a mammoth new offshore wind facility at Teesworks.
Global pipe manufacturer SeAH Wind Ltd is set to bring a £200-300million monopile manufacturing facility to the site, which will produce the large steel tubes that form the foundations of the construction of offshore wind turbines. Once up and running it will be the world’s largest monopile plant for offshore wind turbines.
Now suppliers who want to get involved can learn first-hand of the opportunities available in the development of the factory, planned to commence this July, which will create 1,500 jobs in the supply chain and during construction.
NOF, which provides comprehensive business development services for companies in the energy sector, is hosting the event on 20 April at Hardwick Hall, Sedgefield, North East England.
At the event, representatives from SeAH Wind will present to supply chain firms of all types about how they can get involved in the huge project.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “2022 is our year of construction and we have hundreds of brilliant supply chain businesses operating locally who will play a vital role in the projects we’re kick-starting not just on Teesworks but right across our region.
“To get the message out as far and wide as possible about the raft of opportunities on just one of these schemes – SeAH Wind’s mammoth monopile plant – we’ve partnered with NOF Energy for this must-attend event.
“What’s more, to make sure our local firms are front-and-centre of this transformational development, we’re supporting them by covering the cost of tickets for companies from Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool, so they literally have nothing to lose.
“I’d call on all of our supply chain business bosses to not miss out, sign up today and make sure they are at the forefront of one of the biggest and most exciting schemes we’ve seen to date and one which will, in turn, help them to grow too.”
SeAH Sales and Business Development Manager David Jack added: “SeAH Wind has decided to plant our roots in the Teesside region, and what better way than coming together and engaging with the local supply chain to seek solutions to our project needs.
“Our aim is to be a long-standing employer and supporter to the Teesside region for decades to come, SeAH Wind’s future success is interlinked with that of our suppliers, therefore we encourage supply chain companies to visit, listen, and offer their services and products so we can all help deliver a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come in the Teesside area and beyond.”
Joanne Leng MBE, chief executive of NOF, said: “SeAH Wind Ltd, a member of NOF, will not only benefit from being based at Teesworks in terms of location and facilities, but also the access it will have to a strong local supply chain.
“The UK’s offshore wind supply chain, which includes a strong cluster from the region, Energi Coast, is well-placed to support a development of this scale that will make a significant contribution to the UK’s energy transition goals and our journey to net zero.
“This event presents the first opportunity for SeAH Wind Ltd to engage directly with supply chain companies, which could lead to some highly valuable and mutually beneficial relationships.”
Companies based in the Tees Valley can access free tickets to the event funded by the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority. To check eligibility, they should send their postcode to Philippa Smith at psmith@nof.co.uk. Free tickets for Tees Valley businesses are limited to 100.
Businesses outside of the region can attend, with tickets for NOF members at £85 plus VAT and £135 plus VAT for non-members.
