Forum member Ean Parsons, CEO of Parsons Containers, is closing in on a personal goal of helping
build an athletics track in Sedgefield.
Ean, who founded Sedgefield Harriers Athletics Club in 2005 has chaired the clubs track steering
group for the past ten years. The club was UK Athletics Club of the Year and England Athletics
Development Club of the Year in 2011 and has a large junior section and recently submitted a
planning application for the track and associated facilities.
If successful, the track will be located on land leased from Business Durham to the north of NETPark
and will serve the NETPark business community as well as athletics clubs in the area.
The project is known as East Durham Community Athletics Track (EDCAT) and will serve communities
in East Durham between Sedgefield and Peterlee which is currently short of sports facilities and, as
there is a shortage of track access for clubs in Durham, Hartlepool, Darlington and Stockton-on Tees
the track will provide a much needed facility.
Forum Associate and ex World 1500m champion and World mile record holder Steve Cram has
supported the project throughout and has made a video contribution which can be viewed here.
The track will provide much needed sporting infrastructure and the planning application can be seen
here and anyone who wishes to comment is welcome to do so.
