Moody Logistics and Storage has responded to a growing demand for its warehousing facilities by creating an additional 15,000 sq. ft of space while investing in a new warehouse management system.
The family-run firm has reorganised its warehouse to free up additional space and will shortly install cloud-based fulfilment software Mintsoft which creates efficiencies by optimising stock control, providing customers with complete stock visibility.
It has also appointed former apprentice Matthew Fretwell as warehouse manager to further develop the storage side of the Cramlington-headquartered business.
He retains his current role as production manager of sister company MCR Services, which already uses the warehousing facility as part of its contract packing, reworking, quality inspection, and fulfilment services.
Last year Moody’s expanded its storage capacity from 44,000 sq. ft to 66,000 sq. ft by leasing an additional 22,000 sq. ft warehouse in Ashington after experiencing a surge in enquiries from current and potential customers.
Matthew, 26, who joined the company as an 18-year-old apprentice on leaving Bede Academy, Blyth, said: “The growth in e-commerce is fuelling a big demand for logistics and warehousing space while at the same time the land to build such facilities is at a premium.
“We have looked at how we can use the space more efficiently and as a result have created additional storage that will generate extra revenue while at the same time investing in new fulfilment software that will streamline the workflow as well as improving the customer experience.
“As production manager for MCR Services, I’ve worked closely with the warehousing staff for several years and am familiar with the operational side. I’m delighted to have been appointed warehouse manager and hope to increase its contribution to the success of the overall business.”
Caroline Moody, managing director of Moody Logistics and Storage, said: “Matthew has completed three separate apprenticeships since joining MCR Services and has worked hard to reach a managerial position.
“He’s a great example of the career progression available within the business and fully deserves this opportunity. I’m confident Matthew can use his considerable management experience to further improve the warehouse processes and systems.”
