NEW CHAIR OF TEES VALLEY BUSINESS BOARD SETS OUT AMBITIOUS VISION FOR FUTURE

The new leader of Tees Valley Business Board has set out his vision for a fresh, collaborative approach for the organisation to ensure business voices shape plans for the region’s future and drive economic growth.

Matthew Ord has been formally appointed as permanent Chair of the Tees Valley Business Board by Tees Valley Combined Authority Cabinet after holding the position on an interim basis since July.

The appointment is for a four-year term, providing continuity and stability as the Board works to strengthen its impact and follows a rigorous selection process involving internal and external stakeholders.

The Business Board plays a vital role in ensuring the voice of business is central to shaping the Combined Authority’s economic thinking and plans, advising on key decisions that affect the region.

Matthew brings over 20 years of experience in international trade and is a proud Company Ambassador for LV Logistics, a global logistics firm with its heart in Teesside.

Known for straight talking, direct honesty, and a reputation as one of the region’s most trusted and well-connected business leaders, Matthew has a unique perspective on driving business growth and has always been able to support local businesses with high-level connectivity between other enterprises, stakeholders, and decision-makers.

This approach will underpin the Board’s renewed focus on collaboration and impact.

Matthew said he is looking forward to working with senior leadership team at Tees Valley Combined Authority to support businesses across Tees Valley and deliver on a shared ambition to create skilled jobs and secure investment.

Matthew said: "The Tees Valley Business Board exists to ensure the voice of business is central to shaping the Combined Authority’s plans for the region. Our role is to guide and advise TVCA so its strategies reflect the real needs and ambitions of local enterprises.

“I’m known for my straight talking and collaborative approach and that will remain. Under my leadership, we’re taking a fresh, inclusive approach and we want business leaders to join us.

“In the months ahead, there will be opportunities to become part of the Board for those who share our values of integrity, openness, and a commitment to working together for Tees Valley’s success."

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “I’m delighted to welcome Matthew as the permanent Chair of the Tees Valley Business Board.

“Matthew’s extensive knowledge of the Teesside business landscape, his proven ability to work collaboratively, and his genuine passion for our region make him an outstanding choice for this role.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with him and the wider TVCA team to drive the investment, create the jobs and unlock the opportunities that the people of Teesside, Hartlepool and Darlington deserve.”

Further details on opportunities to join the Business Board will be announced in the coming months.
