Paid Summer Placements Offering Invaluable Experience Open For Sixth Year

A chance to secure key skills and paid work is returning for its sixth year at the Combined Authority.

Applications for two-month internships this summer paying the Real Living Wage of £12.60 are now open at the organisation.

Past interns have gone on to secure full-time work in multi-national companies after picking up invaluable skills during their time with authority teams.

Phoebe Richardson clinched a 12-month marketing placement with the Walt Disney company following her time with the Marketing and Communications team.

She said: “My internship at the TVCA was my first professional experience which helped in developing my leadership and collaborative skills.

“The Marketing and Communications department ensured I gained a variety of valuable skills during my time while also giving me the freedom to work on projects independently.”

Working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, those on the programme have the chance to gain valuable, hands-on experience and actively contribute to exciting projects during the summer.

Based at Teesside Airport, the organisation can offer flexible start and finish times to ensure you can manage your schedule, while any holiday time accrued will be fully paid as part of your final pay.

Departments available as part of the scheme include Business and Skills, Creative Place, Finance, Investment Development, Legal and Governance, Communications and Marketing, Net Zero, Transport and Infrastructure, Procurement and Performance Risk & Assurance.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “We’ve laid the foundations to provide thousands of good well-paid jobs for local people through huge projects – and we’re keen to get our local talent on board and gaining vital experience in making these things happen.

“We’ve had some brilliant success stories from our internship programme since it was launched – and it’s been a brilliant springboard to launch careers with huge companies further afield and close to home.

“Not only do those involved gain vital experience and skills, but we all benefit from the energy, ideas and enthusiasm which they bring during their placement.

“So, I’d urge anyone interested to get involved and apply.”

Patrick Morgan, from Middlesbrough, completed an internship in the Transport and Infrastructure team last summer.

He worked on risk registers, action trackers, Geographic Information System maps – and also went on a range of site visits to major projects.

The 21-year-old has now secured a role as a Project Support Officer with the Combined Authority.

Patrick said: “I really enjoyed every aspect of the internship in terms of the routine and experience it gave me.

“I’d say definitely apply for the internship as it gives you valuable experience for your CV and it’s paid – which is great.”

Applications are open until 28 April. For more information, go to: 2025 Summer Internship Programme - About
