“The very best is still to come” - Prima Cheese co-chief executive hails positive momentum in 30th anniversary year

The co-chief executive of North East-headquartered Prima Cheese has spoken to Insider about the company's "strong momentum" as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Nima Beni explained that the business, which supplies cheese predominantly for pizzas, has experienced growth both nationally and globally.

"While the current trading environment has presented challenges, particularly through ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, our ability to adapt quickly and think strategically has enabled us to turn obstacles into opportunities," he said, adding that resilience and agility have always been at the heart of the company.

"We embrace challenges with confidence, viewing them not as barriers but as catalysts for innovation and progress."

In its 2025/26 financial year, the business refreshed its corporate identity - a move Beni explains was far more than a visual revamp: "It was a statement of intent, reaffirming our commitment to excellence, partnership, service, and consistency."

This year, Prima Cheese celebrates its 30th anniversary - an evolution Beni described as "a tribute to our heritage and a bold step towards the future."

To stay ahead of the curve, innovation remains essential. "Innovation is woven into the fabric of Prima and remains one of the driving forces behind our continued success," Beni said. "Prima is far more than simply 'Cheese in a Bag' - we are a dynamic, forward-thinking business committed to shaping the future of our industry."

This mindset has helped the company achieve several major milestones. Most recently, it retained its prestigious AA accreditation during its annual BRCGS audit with zero non-conformances - an assessment evaluating food safety, packaging, and storage systems. Businesses are typically permitted up to five minor non-conformances while still retaining an AA rating.

Beni noted: "For Prima to receive complete compliance was an exceptional accomplishment that is unheard of within the food industry. This achievement is not simply a reflection of systems and processes - it reflects people. It represents the culture that has been built, the integrity demonstrated every day, and the values that define Prima: passion, respect, integrity, motivation, and ambition."

While headquartered in the North East, Prima Cheese is competing on a global scale.

Beni concluded: "When exceptional people are united by a clear purpose, strong values, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, extraordinary things become possible. It provides tremendous confidence for the future and reinforces our belief that the very best is still to come."
