Progress Roars Ahead On New Park And Ride To Serve Workers On Huge Projects

Progress has roared ahead on creating a new Park and Ride facility to serve hundreds of construction workers involved in the building of Net Zero Teesside Power on the Teesworks site.

Contractors have made the most of the dry spring conditions to press forward with constructing the 1,500-space car park facility being created near Steel House, Redcar.
Planning conditions attached to the development have now been fully discharged by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council – which has opened up further phases of work on the project.
The Park and Ride will sit next to the existing car parks at the vacant Steel House office complex, to the north of the A1085 trunk road, and south of the Tees Valley Railway Line.
At its peak, the Net Zero Teesside project will employ more than 2,000 construction workers engaged in its delivery. The Park and Ride facility will be a vital, major contributor to meeting the travel demands of this project. The Park and Ride is on track to be completed on schedule to meet the needs of the Net Zero Teesside project, which is set to start imminently.
Access to the Park and Ride will come via a new signal-controlled junction off the A1085 Trunk Road – with a new slip road also provided.
Compensatory tree planting and broader soft landscaping works will be carried out as part of the project. This will be supported by further tree planting elsewhere on the Teesworks site in line with agreements reached through the planning process.
The scheme is being funded by the Tees Valley Combined Authority and South Tees Development Corporation.
Martin Corney, Teesworks CEO, said: “It’s great to see progress being made on this key part of the Teesworks site. This project will play a critical role in supporting the workforce behind building Net Zero Teesside.
“Discharging planning conditions means we can now move even faster. With infrastructure like this coming together, it’s clear that Teesworks is delivering on its promise of driving regeneration for Teesside at pace and at scale.”
Ben Houchen, Tees Valley Mayor and Chair of the South Tees Development Corporation, added: “This is another big step forward in making Teesworks the most connected and construction-ready industrial site in the UK.
“The rapid progress on the Park and Ride is there for all to see. It means we’re on track to welcome hundreds of workers to help build Net Zero Teesside and make the most of the huge developments in clean energy projects taking shape.
“We have some very good discussions ongoing at a very high level to see hundreds more acres become home to world-leading innovative businesses. This all bodes well to bring more good well-paid jobs to local people.”
