North East based insight and engagement agency Explain has strengthened its talented workforce with the addition of experienced researcher Dr. Rachel Gordon. Rachel has joined the team as Associate Director to support Explain’s continued growth.
Rachel adds over 10 years’ experience in academic and commercial research to the Explain team who are located in the heart of Newcastle. Following a PhD at Durham University, Rachel became a Post-Doctoral Research Associate, and then Research Fellow at the University, before moving to Newcastle University to fulfil the role of Research Associate. During her time at Newcastle University Rachel led on the delivery of ground-breaking research on children, young people and the blurring between gaming and gambling in digital games – presenting the findings to the House of Lords.
Throughout this period Rachel also consulted for a commercial agency delivering a range of insight projects. Translating her academic and commercial skills, Rachel will focus on delivering strategic insight to Explain’s high profile client base.
With a growing national client base, Explain has been providing quality, actionable insights to inform strategic decision-making to a range of organisations across the UK for over two decades.
Following a successful MBO in 2019, and a move to The Core at Newcastle Helix in 2021, Explain has experienced rapid growth. The company has continued to grow revenue and profitability which has led to investment in new solutions and its team over the last three years.
Rachel said: “I am delighted to join the Explain team and to be working alongside a team of talented and dedicated researchers. I am looking forward to contributing to new and ongoing research projects across a range of sectors, to deliver real positive change.”
Calling the North East home, Rachel studied at Durham and Newcastle University, before progressing her career within the region.
