Recruitment Launched For New Leadership At Development Corporations

Recruitment has been launched for new leadership to drive forward transformational regeneration at key locations in Tees Valley.

Applications are now being sought for new Chairs to take South Tees, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough Development Corporations to the next stage.

They will act as strategic leaders and ambassadors for the DCs, helping to forge strong partnerships across the public and private sectors and guide the delivery of key regeneration priorities.

Hartlepool and Middlesbrough Development Corporations were established to spearhead ambitious town centre regeneration, encourage businesses back into urban centres, and deliver high-quality homes in a mission to create vibrant, attractive communities where people aspire to live, work, and play.

South Tees Development Corporation is responsible for the regeneration of the former Redcar Steelworks – now known as Teesworks. The 4,500 acre site is being transformed as a centre for green industry, securing billions of pounds of investment and creating thousands of highly-skilled jobs.

Applications are now open for all three roles, which require a commitment of three days a month and which have a salary of £15,120 per year. Appointments are made by the Tees Valley Mayor for a period of up to four years.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “We’re looking for visionary, driven individuals who can lead our Development Corporations at this exciting time and help us get the very best for local people.

“From ground-breaking industrial projects to town centre transformation, these are serious regeneration programmes – and we want serious leaders to match.”

Middlesbrough Development Corporation is already advancing major projects such as the £200million regeneration of a site in Gresham into a high-quality housing and hotel development.

In Hartlepool, the Development Corporation is playing a vital role in the planned improvements to the town’s film and TV production studios, enhancing creative sector opportunities, as well as supporting a £120million waterfront housing scheme which will bring hundreds of new homes to the town.

Teesworks, part of the Teesside Freeport, is leading the UK as a centre for low-carbon energy, with projects such as the SeAH Wind’s offshore wind monopile manufacturing facility, South Bank Quay and Net Zero Teesside, the UK’s first gas-fired power station with carbon capture capability.

The roles offer a unique opportunity to lead regeneration efforts that will have a lasting social and economic impact. The Development Corporations are committed to being inclusive organisations, actively promoting equality of opportunity for all those they work with.

Applicants should bring a track record of leadership, strategic thinking and the ability to build influential partnerships across a range of stakeholders. Experience of urban regeneration, commercial development or public sector governance would be an advantage.

For individuals with a passion for place-making and delivering real change, these roles offer a meaningful and fulfilling challenge.
