5 February 2015, 14:00 - 17:00

Staiths Café Bar, 1 Autumn Drive, Staiths Southbank, Gateshead NE8 2BZ

It’s 15 years since designers Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway launched a tirade against soulless mass housing developments in Britain, following it with his vision to improve things with generous landscaping, play and home zone streets.

The vision became a reality when Wayne and Gerardine teamed up with the then Wimpey Homes to transform an unused brownfield site in Dunston, Gateshead, into the award-winning Staiths development of over 750 homes, which people queued to buy.

The café bar is the final piece in the jigsaw of The Staiths community, and February 5th is its official opening day.

Forum members have an exclusive opportunity to join Wayne at the opening to hear about what he says “could just well be” HemingwayDesign’s greatest achievement in 30 years as designers.

Now led by two generations of the Hemingway family, HemingwayDesign has worked with clients such as Sainsbury’s, John Lewis, Coca-Cola and The National Trust on products and influenced the skylines of Manchester, Maidenhead and Bournemouth as well as Gateshead and others with housing regeneration.

Interior design projects have included the London 2012 athletes’ village, they’ve redesigned how staff at McDonald’s and Transport for London look and they’ve put Darlington on the map with The Festival of Thrift.

Linking them all is an ethos to meet social need and a vision to cut through the ordinary and make life better.

Join us at this special event to hear from a great Northern pioneer and visionary.

This event is free for members to attend. Members' guests cost £25 (+VAT).
