Northern Accelerator is a collaboration between the partners of Universities North East England (Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside Universities). Our partnership brings world leading research together with commercial expertise to create companies that drive sustainable economic growth and ensure our research delivers lasting impact.
It has created a step change in research commercialisation in the region, establishing over 65 spinout business to date, with partners’ spinouts having raised over £200m investment and now employing over 800 people. Northern Accelerator is funded by Integrated Settlement Funding from the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority for its core programme and by Research England’s Connecting Capability Fund for a complementary programme to further develop the commercial ecosystem.
